# MCP Web Search & Scrape in Qodo

> Add Firecrawl web search and scraping to Qodo Command

Add Firecrawl to Qodo Command so your Qodo agents can search the web and read pages. Qodo Command starts the Firecrawl MCP server as a local process, using your API key.

<Note>
  Qodo is retiring its IDE plugin on October 30, 2026 and moving local workflows into the coding agents you already use. This page covers Qodo Command, which reads MCP servers from a project file.
</Note>

## Requirements

* Qodo Command, installed with `npm install -g @qodo/command` and signed in with `qodo login`.
* Node.js 22 or newer.
* A [Firecrawl API key](https://www.firecrawl.dev/app/api-keys).

## Quick setup

1. In your project root, create `mcp.json`:

```json theme={null}
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "firecrawl": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "firecrawl-mcp@3.33.2"],
      "env": {
        "FIRECRAWL_API_KEY": "fc-YOUR-API-KEY"
      }
    }
  }
}
```

2. Create `agents/research.toml` and give the agent access to the server by name:

```toml theme={null}
version = "1.0"
[commands.research]
description = "Research a topic on the web with Firecrawl"
instructions = """
Use the Firecrawl tools to search the web and read pages, then summarize the sources.
"""
tools = ["firecrawl"]
execution_strategy = "act"
```

3. Import the agent from `agent.toml` at the project root:

```toml theme={null}
version = "1.0"
imports = ["agents/research.toml"]
```

4. Run the agent and list the available tools:

```bash theme={null}
qodo list-mcp
qodo research "Find the latest release notes for Node.js"
```

Keep `mcp.json` out of source control, because it holds your key. See [Run MCP locally](/mcp-server/local) for the full list of environment variables.

## Try it

```text theme={null}
Search the web for the latest Go release notes and summarize the sources.
```

```text theme={null}
Scrape https://firecrawl.dev and explain what it does.
```

## What you can do

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="Search" icon="magnifying-glass" href="/features/search">
    Find current information and read the content of relevant results.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Scrape" icon="file-lines" href="/features/scrape">
    Turn URLs into clean markdown or structured data.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Interact" icon="hand-pointer" href="/features/interact">
    Navigate, click, and fill forms to reach the data you need.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Alexandria" icon="books" href="/features/alexandria">
    Discover structured data tools, inspect inputs and pricing, then run them through Firecrawl.
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

## Troubleshooting

* **`list-mcp` shows no Firecrawl entry:** confirm `mcp.json` sits at the project root, or pass `--mcp-file=path`.
* **The agent never calls Firecrawl:** check that `tools` in the agent file contains `"firecrawl"`, matching the key in `mcp.json`.
* **The server fails to start:** run `node --version` and confirm it prints 22 or newer.
* **The server returns `401`:** replace the value of `FIRECRAWL_API_KEY` in `mcp.json`.
